Web Page Design (Rick Dennis, 10:15 – 11:45, Wednesday, 6 /23, Leon HS)
The major emphasis in this class is design: how the heck do you decide what to put where, and should you use frames or maybe tables, and what about the background color, and how many graphics is too many, and should they be animated, etc. In addition to explaining the "whys" of design, Richard can explain the "how tos" for any particular feature that students want to know more about.

How-to tips for downloading database sets, importing them into Excel and manipulating the data into desired report formats.

Novell vs. NT: Where the Rubber Meets the Road (Jim Reid, 1:00 – 2:30, Wednesday, 6/23, Leon HS)
What are the real differences between these two popular network operating systems? How do you choose one over the other? What must you know about your network in order to make an informed decision? When proponents for the two sides get to arguing, who’s right?

Brenda will identify the missing noun in the title of her presentation and explain why she feels that way, including an explanation of what it takes to bring about such a marriage.

Making sure your staff and faculty understand what their responsibilities are in using the Internet and in supervising its usage by others, including students.

Tom Cook rolls up his sleeves once again to take novices through the dos and don’ts of computer repair, including: when to take the cover off, how to identify and replace components, when to call the Help Desk.

DIGITAL IMAGE ACQUISITION: From Posing to Publishing
(The Brothers O'Lary, 8:30 – 11:45, Thursday, 6/24, Sullivan Elementary)
This workshop will introduce you to the process of capturing images from a digital camera, and scanning in still photographs with a flat-bed scanner, then "digitally processing" the images for use in different media, including WEB page display, printing/publishing and inclusion in word processor and desktop publishing material. You will be involved in the photographic session, the transfer into computers, then the digital manipulation which transforms a raw image into an eyeball-pleasing showpiece! File-types and their purposes will be discussed, and attendees are encouraged to bring a photo or two for use in scanning examples.

E-mail Acclimation (Gail Faughn, 1:00 – 2:30, Thursday, 6/24, Sullivan Elementary)
"We did a really successful thing here at Astoria to get teachers acclimated to using e-mail, including composing, sending, receiving, signatures, CCs, BCs, attachments, etc.. We had a lot of fun, and great participation (85% of staff, even though it was voluntary), and people seemed to learn a lot with little pain. The feedback was very positive."

Brenda steps beginners through the process of repairing the latest models of the famous brand name that started the personal computer craze, the beloved Macintosh.
